Pacific School of Massage and Healing Arts has presented its Massage-Practitioner professional training course seasonally since 1978. Advanced and specialized workshops are also given throughout the year; (see Transformational Bodywork Seminars section). This experiential course of study has been created for individuals interested in practicing the arts of massage and natural healing.
This course prepares the student for professional occupation in the massage field by familiarizing participants with a wide variety of therapeutic massage and healing tools. Students will also learn aspects of nutrition, anatomy, physiology and counseling skills so that they can interact and support their clients more completely. Our approach invites participants to take personal responsibility for their health and well-being. This attitude empowers others with love and self-esteem. Healing massage is a powerful therapeutic skill used to harmonize the body, mind and spirit. |

Each training course includes two separate six-day sessions (Sunday through Friday) with one month of independent study and practice in between. The ocean, river, forest environment creates a natural retreat atmosphere for the student's exploration. Participants form a close-knit community of friendship and mutual support as they examine the spiritual relationship between feeling states, belief systems and how they affect the body.
Tai chi, yoga and low-impact aerobics are incorporated into daily curriculum. By the end of session one, students will feel confident giving a full-body massage that combines shiatsu, Iymphatic massage, and chakra balancing with polarity, deep body work and the Swedish/Oriental traditions. This massage becomes a dance of aliveness, pleasure and transcendence.
During the month of independent study, students are required to give three massages per week. Assigned research and reading are completed along with journals of each massage. This work is sent in and evaluated prior to the second session.
The second session examines healing models and the meaning of being human. Transformational Bodywork, as developed in this school, asks the question “Who lives in this body?” This introduction surveys deep tissue body work and personal growth. Advanced seminars in Transformational Bodywork are available to graduates. Second session also explores Energy Work in the form of Acupressure Modalities and SHEN, a physioemotional release therapy, and Touch For Healthwhich examines balance and integration of the body through muscle testing. Lessons in anatomy and physiology encompass Iymphatic and vascular systems. The Law of Five Elements and the role and function of the meridians, organs and muscles. The students also explore their identities as massage practitioners in various experiential processes.
At the end of the massage school students take an examination home to complete. Approximately three weeks later, our graduation ceremony takes place where diplomas are issued and a celebration is held. Professional and personal use of skills and knowledge acquired in our training have an immediate, positive effect on every graduate's self-esteem and financial right livelihood.
